Homesick in progress

Getting there!

There are so many things I can talk about homesick and I can explore it from so many different angles: counseling, campus programming, res life and most importantly -- students!

I have been doing alright with the interview and sourcing. Last Saturday, I attended an event that was meant for female international student (only) hosted by Yvonne and Deb Loehrs! They were playing games, icebreaking, talking about women issues and last but not least enjoying some good homemade dishes. One topic that was raised was about the outrageous that are kidnapped in Nigeria. It is so heartbreaking. We had also students from Nigeria who talked about it.

I also got to interview one student shared her homesickness. She is a freshman. Apparently, I was not the only one --- she cried to when she really is homesick. Good thing though, she coped with her homesick feeling pretty well by making new friendships and relationships. The video will be there as a part of the footage :-)

I will be very happy to if you guys can help me sharing stories about homesick. I am pretty sure, we have all been there :-)

  1. The the topic is very interesting. It shows that people deal with being away from home in a variety of different ways. The the best way for a person to deal with with the struggles of being away from is to just be involved and not be a loner. It is important for people to stay active and not let it get to them to badly. Being away from home is tough I know but it is only for a somewhat short time. Getting off of campus also helps, the town is a tad small so it is easy to get bored especially on breaks.

  2. The party sounds like a great idea, and fun. What other events are there like that to help students overcome their homesickness?
